Compass Conversations: Little Bird Photography

I'm excited to spotlight Ariel, the incredible talent behind Little Bird Photography! Ariel's journey into photography took a poignant turn in 2019 when she rebranded in honor of her late daughter, and since then, her work has been nothing short of extraordinary. Ariel's unique approach leans more towards the artistic side of photography, constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new styles.

Her commitment to the community is truly inspiring. Join me in celebrating Ariel's remarkable story, her dedication to her craft, and the beautiful impact she has on our community!

Each month, we'll take you on a journey through the unique stories, passions, and dreams that drive our local entrepreneurs. These are the stories behind the logos and social media posts, the spirited souls enriching our daily lives with their craft and dedication.

What inspired you to start your business?

I had tried to get into photography in the past, but I was never successful with the follow-through, I still did shoots for family and friends, I loved it all! After my daughter passed away in 2019, I rebranded in honor of her, and things have just been wild since!

How does your business contribute to the local community?

I offer bereavement sessions as a gift in honor of my daughter. I will also try to give away one or two sessions a month to families in need or in delicate situations. I like to also contribute to any fundraising or raffles for good causes in the area!

Can you share a memorable experience or success story related to your business?

I’ve honestly been shooting for so long now, and there have been so many wonderful experiences. But I will say bereavement always sticks with me. It’s such a sacred space I’m invited into, where life and death no longer matters and only love thrives. I’ve gotten to take the first and last photos of so many beautiful souls. It just really leaves a mark.

What challenges have you faced in building your business, and how have you overcome them?

Honestly, I feel like I’m my biggest issue! I have such intense imposter syndrome. It’s taken a long time for me to realize I am good enough if that makes sense?

What makes your business unique?

I lean more towards the art side of photography vs the stand there and smile vibe! I am always building sets, trying different styles and just constantly growing education-wise! I feel like there is always something new to learn, and I never want to be complacent when it comes to my education/art!

What advice would you give to other small business owners who are just starting out?

Believe in yourself and know your worth. There will always be someone telling you you’re not enough, but there will also be a whole crew of people who know you’re enough. Focus on that.

How do you see your business evolving in the future?

I’d love to head towards education! Still active with sessions, but my heart longs to teach this art form!

Do you have a special message that you'd like to share with the community through this article?

I’m so unbelievably thankful for this community, I have lived here 90% of my life, this town has seen basically all my phases and they’ve always supported me.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I'm the owner of County Compass, and an Amherst County resident.

I love our community and want to help new homeowners find all the local gems that may not get enough exposure on social media.
